How to Check an APK Is Safe Before Installing
Check an APK by confirming where it came from, matching size and version against the source, reading the permission list for anything a casino app cannot justify, scanning the file before opening it, and comparing the package name and signature. The Crorebet file we tested was 43 MB, version 3.6, and requested six permissions.

Where did the file come from?
This check decides most of the others and it is the one people skip. A package handed on by a friend, pulled from a sharing group or grabbed from a mirror is an unknown quantity whatever it is named, because repackaging an app and keeping the icon identical is trivial. Two signs settle it quickly: any listing offering a modified build or unlocked features is describing tampered code, and any download arriving through a message link rather than a page you navigated to should be discarded on principle.
| Property | Observed value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Download size | 43 MB | A copy far outside the 28 to 43 MB range deserves suspicion |
| Version string | 3.6 | Should match what the source page states for the current build |
| Minimum Android | 8.0 | A build claiming to run on anything older is not the same app |
| Installed footprint | About 90 MB with cache | A sanity check once the install completes |
| Permissions requested | Six | Internet, network state, media images, camera, notifications, vibration |
| Cold start | 2.4 s on Redmi Note 12 | 6.0 s on a Redmi 9A; far slower suggests a different build |

Does the file size and version match the source?
Comparing two numbers takes ten seconds and catches the laziest tampering. Android shows the size in the Downloads app before you open anything: a package that should be 43 MB arriving as 74 MB has something extra inside, and one arriving as 9 MB is a downloader stub rather than the app.
Read it as a range. Builds differ by architecture and release, and the Crorebet downloads we took across ten days sat between 28 MB and 43 MB. Inside that band tells you little; far outside it tells you plenty. What changes between builds is tracked on the version history page.
Which permissions can a casino app justify?
Far fewer than most people assume. A casino platform needs a connection, somewhere to write a document photo, a camera to take it, and notifications. Anything beyond that should be argued for, and if it cannot be, delete the file.
| Permission | Legitimate use | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Internet and network state | Placing stakes, loading odds, detecting a dropped connection | Reasonable |
| Media images | Attaching a document photo for verification | Reasonable |
| Camera | Photographing an ID document inside the app | Reasonable |
| Notifications and vibration | Game settlement and payout alerts | Reasonable |
| Contacts | None a casino platform can defend | Refuse |
| SMS read access | Harvesting one-time codes, including your bank's | Refuse |
| Accessibility service | Reading and controlling every other app on screen | Refuse |
| Install other packages | Delivering further software after the fact | Refuse |
The bottom four rows are the ones that matter. SMS access is how a hostile package intercepts banking codes, and an accessibility service is the most powerful thing an Android app can hold. The Crorebet package requested six permissions across our installs and none came from that block; the reasoning behind each is examined on the app safety assessment.

Download and InspectWhat does allowing unknown sources really change?
Less than the warning suggests. On Android 13 there is no global switch: the permission is granted per app, so you allow your browser or file manager to install packages and that grant covers nothing else.
Definition: install unknown apps
A per-app Android permission letting a chosen application act as an installer for packages obtained outside the Play Store. It is scoped to that one app, revocable in Settings, and changes nothing about what the installed package may later do.
Two Android 13 behaviours are worth knowing. The built-in scanner offers to check the package as it installs, and you should let it. And a sideloaded app is placed under restricted settings, so the system blocks it from being granted accessibility or notification-listener access by the normal route. Revoke the installer permission afterwards — two taps, and a future drive-by download cannot reuse the grant. The full install sequence is on the APK guide, and the alternatives to sideloading on the download hub.
How do you scan a file before opening it?
Upload it, or let the phone do it. A multi-engine scanner such as VirusTotal returns a verdict in under a minute, and Play Protect checks the package at install time on a modern handset. Both are worth doing and neither is conclusive: a clean result means the file matches nothing currently known to be malicious, which is narrower than it sounds, since a freshly repackaged build has not been catalogued yet. A dirty result is decisive — delete it.
Scan before the first tap, not after. Once a package is installed, anything harmful in it has already run its installation code. The value of scanning is that it happens while the file is still inert.
Verify first, install second
The Crorebet package is roughly 43 MB on version 3.6, Android 8.0 and above. 18+ only.
Go to the Download PageCan you check the package name and signature?
Partly, and Android enforces the important half for you. Every package is signed with a developer certificate, and an update signed with a different key than the installed version is refused outright — so a tampered rebuild cannot quietly replace a genuine install. That gives you a practical test: install once from a source you trust, then treat any later file that refuses to install over the top as a different app wearing the same name.
Package names are checkable on the phone: open the app info screen and confirm the identifier looks like a real reversed domain rather than a near-miss of a famous brand. Whether the operator behind the Crorebet app is who it claims to be is a separate question, examined on our trust investigation.
What can you not verify, honestly?
A good deal, and pretending otherwise is how people get hurt.
- What the checks give you. Confidence that the file came from where you think, matches the size and version it should, asks for nothing it cannot justify, and is not a known bad sample.
- What they do not. Any assurance about the operator's conduct, the security of your documents on their servers, or the outcome of any bet placed afterwards.
- What reduces the rest. A password used nowhere else, documents sent only inside the app, and a payment route you can watch from your bank's own app.
You cannot read compiled code, and you cannot confirm a certificate belongs to a company unless that company publishes the fingerprint. What the Crorebet app reaches once running is a separate question from what the file contains, and our device-level assessment covers it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if an APK is safe before installing it?
Confirm the source, compare size and version against what that source states, read the permission list for anything a casino app cannot justify, scan the file while it is still unopened, and check the package name on the app info screen afterwards.
Which permissions should make me delete an APK?
Read access to SMS, access to contacts, permission to install further packages, and any request for an accessibility service. Each hands over capabilities a casino platform has no use for, and SMS access in particular exposes the one-time codes your bank sends.
APK safe hai ya nahi, ye kaise pata kare?
Pehle dekhiye file kahan se aayi hai. Size aur version source page se match kariye. Permission list padhiye — SMS, contacts ya accessibility maange to file delete kar dijiye. Install se pehle scan kariye, aur baad mein app info screen par package name check kariye.
Unknown sources on karna khatarnak hai kya?
Android 13 par ye permission sirf ek app ko milti hai, poore phone ko nahi. Jis browser ya file manager ko aap allow karte hain, bas wahi package install kar sakta hai. Install ke turant baad Settings mein jaakar wo permission wapas le lena sabse safe hai.
Does a clean virus scan mean the file is genuine?
No. It means the file matches nothing currently known to be malicious, which is narrower than it appears, because a freshly repackaged build has not been catalogued yet. A clean result raises confidence without settling the question; a dirty one is reason enough to delete it.
Why is there no Play Store version to check against?
Real-money gambling apps are not distributed through the Indian Play Store, so operators ship an Android package directly and iPhone users get a web app added to the home screen. That absence is normal here, and it is why the source of the file matters so much.
